DOBOT Unveils Atom: China’s First Full-Scale Embodied Humanoid Robot with Industrial Dexterity
DOBOT’s humanoid robot Atom made a stunning debut at China’s first Embodied Intelligence Robot Sports Games, showcasing world-leading dexterity and straight-knee locomotion. Backed by core technologies like neural-driven systems and high-precision motion control, Atom is paving the way for real-world robotic applications across manufacturing, services, healthcare, and smart cities.
China’s First Embodied AI Robot Sports Games Spotlight Atom by DOBOT, Setting a New Benchmark in Human-Centric Robotics
From April 24 to 26, 2025, the First Embodied Intelligence Robot Sports Games, hosted by the China Institute of Electronics, took place in Wuxi. Leading collaborative robotics company DOBOT made a groundbreaking appearance with Atom, the world’s first full-size humanoid robot combining dexterous manipulation with straight-knee bipedal walking. Atom became the centerpiece of the event, earning the “Outstanding Intelligent Control Award” for its smooth, precise movements and outstanding adaptability across real-world scenarios.
High-Profile Interaction and Technological Debut
Wuxi’s Deputy Mayor Zhou Wendong personally interacted with Atom during the exhibition, symbolizing official recognition of the robot’s technological importance. Atom is powered by DOBOT’s proprietary high-precision servo system and NDS (Neural Drive System) operating platform, enabling seamless coordination across the entire perception-decision-execution chain.
During live demonstrations, Atom completed complex, delicate tasks such as assembling a chocolate gift box, stacking blocks, handling push pins, handing over milk, shaking hands, and offering flowers—all executed through natural language voice commands.
Industrial-Grade Dexterity Meets Humanlike Mobility
Atom’s standout capability lies in its ±0.05mm repeat positioning accuracy, achieved through DOBOT’s in-house developed neural-driven dexterity system. With a 1:1 anthropomorphic arm structure, Atom performs with industrial-grade precision in challenging tasks such as automotive manufacturing and electronic assembly.
The robot also utilizes a straight-knee walking system (AWS) based on deep imitation learning. By analyzing thousands of human walking movements, Atom generates a highly realistic gait pattern. This design consumes 42% less energy compared to traditional bent-knee walking robots, significantly extending operational time.
Embodied AI Enters Real-World Applications
Embodied intelligence is rapidly moving from experimental stages into real-world deployments. Atom embodies this transformation, showcasing the enormous industrial potential of humanoid robots. Through ROM-1, a domain-specific skill model developed by DOBOT, Atom is being positioned for industrial scenarios that demand continuous, precise operations across variable setups—such as:
-
Automotive component assembly lines
-
Multi-machine beverage preparation in coffee chains
-
Automated nighttime pharmaceutical retrieval in drugstores
These environments often involve non-fixed equipment layouts, multi-spec products, short travel distances, and tight maneuvering spaces, requiring both adaptability and repeatability—traits Atom is purpose-built for.
Leadership in the Robotics Industry
By the end of 2024, DOBOT had shipped over 80,000 collaborative robots worldwide, ranking first in China and second globally, with customers in over 80 countries and regions. The company maintains over 90% in-house component development and up to 100% domestic substitution, underscoring its technological independence and resilience.
DOBOT’s long-term commitment to full-stack in-house R&D has positioned it at the forefront of innovation across critical domains such as safety, autonomous mobility, and artificial intelligence. With the global race toward embodied AI heating up, major countries have already included this frontier in their national strategies.
DOBOT’s strategic entry into humanoid robotics through Atom reflects a deep alignment between technology and application, aiming to power high-quality development of China’s humanoid robot industry and help shape the future of intelligent automation on a global scale.
